GODS AND GODDESSES OF ANCIENT TIMES
INANNA
IN ANCIENT LITERATURE -
Part III

Inanna's Indus Valley Domain, designated The Third Region, was settled by her human serfs, and included two cities, Harappa an Mohenjo Daro, which became the granary of the Old World.  "But the MEs for of civilized kingdoms for the Third Region Enki did not give: Let Inanna what for Ung-ki [Uruk] had obtained with the new region share! So did Enki declare" [Sitchin, op.cit., 287].

Enmerkar--(a descendant of Inanna's father, Ute) the second king Inanna appointed in Uruk--refused to hand over his city's MEs to the Indus King.  Enmerkar instead sent his son, Banda to negotiate subordination of Harappa to Uruk.   Banda, however, appeared to have died on his mission and "The MEs of Ung-ki Harappa did not obtain; In the Third Region, Civilized Mankind did not fully blossom." [Sitchin, op.cit., 289]

Inanna now had two domains--Indus  and Uruk.  She commuted between the two, sometimes flying her own craft, sometimes piloted by the navigator Nungal.  In Uruk, as well as the Indus Valley, tantra flourished in her temples.  Inanna had her temple women give men psychedelics5 and guide them through tantric rituals.  The women artfully made love with the men they were honoring.   The purpose of the sexual congress: expand consciousness and intelligence for all participants and for civilization.   Inanna thus led spiritual expansion among the Nibiran settlers (with some elevation in the status of their female Earthling servants).   Her tools for raising consciousness were sacred substances, loving sex  and, by her personal example, female empowerment.

But Inanna "restless and ungratified was; For her beloved Dumuzi she still mourned, her love's desire unquenched remained.  When he flew about, in the sunrays Dumuzi's image she saw shimmering and beckoning .... The glories of his domain in the Land of the Two Narrows [Egypt] to her he was promising."  In Uruk, "A House for Nighttime Pleasure she established.  To this young heroes, on the night of their weddings, with sweet words she lured: Long life, a blissful future to them she promised; that her lover Dumuzi was she imagined.  Each one in the morning in her bed was found dead" until Utu, Inanna's father, revived Banda, who returned to Uruk.

"A miracle! excited Inanna shouted.  My beloved Dumuzi to me came back!  In her abode Banda was bathed....Dumuzi, my beloved! she called him.  To her bed, with flowers bedecked, she lured him.  When in the morning Banda was alive, Inanna shouted: the power of dying in my hands was placed, immortality by me is granted.  Then to call herself a goddess Inanna decided, the Power of Immortality it implied. [Sitchin, op.cit., 292]

Banda succeeded Enmerkar as King of Uruk and married Enlil's descendant, Ninsun, who bore Gilgamesh, who followed Banda to the throne.  Banda (and later, Gilgimesh) went to the rocketpad in Lebanon to plead with the astronauts for immortality.  Inanna watched Gilgimesh wreck a robot.  In awe of his prowess and looks, she lusted for him.  She asked him to take her sexually, but he refused.  She nearly killed him.
